Lung Cancer: Types and Treatment
Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 85% of all cases. There are three main types of NSCLC:
1. Adenocarcinoma
Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of NSCLC, accounting for about 40% of all cases. It is characterized by the presence of mucus-producing cells in the lung tissue.
2. Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common type of NSCLC, accounting for about 25% of all cases. It is characterized by the presence of flat, scale-like cells in the lung tissue.
3. Large Cell Carcinoma
Large cell carcinoma is a less common type of NSCLC, accounting for about 10% of all cases. It is characterized by the presence of large, round cells in the lung tissue.
